KBSD is proud to be the rehearsal home of the
Say Dance Collective, a semi-education-based contemporary
dance company that encourages a collaborative experience across the
spectrum of the arts. Conceived to give young, adventurous artists an
opportunity to create, perform, release, and grow within their arts, Say
Dance also envisions its future in being a home for dancers with physical
inequalities that in other situations would possibly prevent them from
performing. Since its inception in 2009, Say Dance has performed its first
full-length evening concert, in benefits, festivals, and alongside other
artists; most notably with Pacific Encore Performances in their June 2010
Evening of Opera at Carnegie Hall in New York City.

Hi
Kathryn, I just wanted to tell you I volunteered at Saturday's Holiday Express
event in Wyckoff and was on the bus with your dancers. I was so impressed by
them; the discipline, respect, and training you've given them were obvious (ok,
they have good parents too!). They were extremely mature, polite young ladies.
And then they were incredible at the event ... not only their always-great
performance, but how they interacted with the mentally / physically disabled
adults that made up the audience.
The girls were more at ease with them than I was. They didn't stop for a
minute, walking around the room with huge smiles on their faces and bringing joy
to everyone after they'd performed. They showed poise and maturity well beyond
their ages. Since you weren't there, I wanted to share this with you.
(...and they even offered to share their potato chips with the adults on the
bus even though the adults couldn't share their beverages with the girls!).
My
friend Cathy has always raved about the experience her girls have been lucky to
receive over the years from you, and the added bonus of being able to
participate with Holiday Express and be exposed to people they normally likely
wouldn't have the opportunity to and be part of the fabulous volunteer
experience that Holiday Express is. I was happy to tell her, and now you, about
what I witnessed yesterday watching girls I didn't know but very quickly came to
be extremely fond of.
You do great work! -- Loren |
